Five Second Rule of the Day: Medics in Mexico have caused quite a stir after being caught on camera tipping over a cooler containing a human heart on its way to surgery.
The country had been following the ticker’s frenzied trek to the Mexico City hospital were a transplant patient was eagerly awaiting its arrival.
In their haste, the medics wheeling the organ cooler to its destination accidentally tipped it over, spilling a bag containing the heart on the ground. They quickly scooped it up, and went on about their business.
Though the incident made for quite a spectacle, the organ itself was unharmed.
“It’s arrival was a bit scary but fortunately it all went well,” the head surgeon told reporters. “Because we had the heart perfectly protected as it was packed in three layers.”
The daily newspaper Reforma reports that the patient is doing fine, despite being the only person in the world who can say they had their heart “literally dragged across the floor,” and mean it.
